After about two months of selling candy in their Nottingham, United Kingdom store, The Treat Kitchen owners Martin and Jess Barnett are bringing their creations to the web in response to popular demand.

“So many visitors to Nottingham have been asking us to go online so they can purchase our sweets from their home towns,” Martin Barnett says. “Jess and I are so excited to launch the e-commerce site just in time to showcase our Christmas range.”

Candy lovers throughout the UK can now get their hands on the company’s products, which include locally made rock candy, sugar-free sweets and chocolate pizzas. The online store also offers traditional favorites such as gourmet jelly beans, gummies and chocolates.

It’s not just the confectionery with which the Barnetts experiment; exciting packaging is also a feature of the brand. Sweets are sold in glass milk bottles and jars or resealable pouches with an emphasis on reusability through upcycling. The clear packaging allows the candy to sell itself.

“At the Treat Kitchen the sweets are the hero,” Martin Barnett explains. “We don't want our packaging to distract from the beautiful colors of our confectionery.”

The couple opened The Treat Kitchen in September, capitalizing on Martin Barnett’s experience in retail and family background in confectionery — his family has run confectionery factories since the 1890s — and Jess Barnett’s experience in administration and marketing.

The candy is locally made, including at the family-owned factories, and fudge is made at the store. Though products can currently only ship domestically, the Barnetts hope to eventually share their treats with the world.
