Vintage Black Cow candy reintroduced

January 6, 2011

Classic Caramel has reintroduced the vintage Black Cow candy after a 25-year absence.

Despite being off the market for so long, Richard Warrell, director of sales and marketing for Warrell Classic, says now is a great time to start manufacturing the confection again.

“There is very much a wave of nostalgic desire and a grassroots group of people that still talk about the Black Cow,” he says.

Warrell also points out  that a lot of nostalgic candies have been reintroduced lately, including Classic Caramel’s Bonomo Turkish Taffy, which was brought back to retail last year and received an overwhelming positive response. Classic Caramel is hoping people will react similarly to Black Cow’s memorable flavor.

Traditionally a caramel dipped into chocolate, Black Cow was discontinued over two decades ago because the company that purchased the product did not have the ability to dip it into chocolate.

Although these newer Black Cow bars will also not be chocolate-coated, Warrell says that the chocolate caramel mix Classic Caramel has created should stir up redolent experiences.

In tandem with the reintroduction of Black Cow, the company announced the arrival of Slo Poke bars to the Classic Caramel family.

The Slo Poke, a rich chewy caramel treat that has been around since the 1920’s, flourished alongside the Black Cow.

“The Black Cow and the Slo Poke are really brother and sister items that grew up together,” says Warrell. “The other piece of this [preintroduction] is marrying the two brands back together.”
