Heart-check mark to appear on select Fisher Nuts heart healthy packages

The American Heart Association has certified nine Fisher Nuts products as hearth-healthy.

Select packages of the company’s Pecans, Walnuts and Almonds will feature the heart-check mark, indicating they meet the American Heart Association’s requirements to be deemed a heart-healthy food.

The certification will give heart-conscious consumers confidence in choosing Fisher Nuts products, says Howard Brandeisky, senior v.p. of global marketing and customer solutions.

“We’re honored to be affiliated with such a long-standing, respected organization like the American Heart Association that raises awareness about the importance of heart health,” Brandeisky exclaims.

American Heart Association certified Fisher Nuts include Pecan Halves, Pecan Chips, Pecan Chopped, Walnut Halves & Pieces, Walnut Chips, Chopped Walnuts, Whole Natural Almonds, Sliced Almonds, and Slivered Almonds.

“Numerous studies have suggested that eating 1.5 ounces per day of most nuts as a part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease,” says food and nutrition expert, Dawn Jackson Blatner, RD.

Several studies have reported that nuts can contain higher amounts of unsaturated fats, which are good, and lower amounts of saturated fats, which are bad. Nuts can also be an excellent source of the antioxidant vitamin E.

The American Heart Association has a goal to improve American cardiovascular health by 20 percent in the year 2020. The heart-check mark helps consumers identify foods that fit into a heart-healthy diet. Established in 1995, the heart-check food certification program is one of the longest running of its kind.
