Gen X candy lovers are most likely to enjoy candy corn, according to a new survey conducted by Morning Consult on behalf of the National Confectioners Association.
Nearly 6 in 10 (58 percent) of Gen X consumers reported they enjoyed the classic Halloween treat. Baby boomers, at 56 percent, follow closely behind. However, candy corn is slightly less popular with younger generations, as less than half of Millennials (46 percent) and Gen Z (49 percent) report enjoying candy corn.
When it comes to eating candy corn, 29 percent of Americans bite candy corn’s narrow white end first, while 7 percent start with the wider yellow end. The remaining 65 percent pop the entire piece in their mouths in one go.
Regionally, Southerners are 2 percent more likely than the average American to begin with the wider yellow end, while residents of the Northeast are 4 percent more likely to enjoy their candy corn in one bite.
Mirroring national trends, 64 percent of Midwesterners eat candy corn in one go, while 6 percent nibble the narrow white end and 30 percent start with the wider yellow end. Similarly, 66 percent of consumers on the West Coast will eat the whole candy corn piece, while 5 percent will start with the white end and 29 percent start with the yellow end.
