Dr. Bronner’s to introduce line of organic chocolate bars

Soap maker uses cocoa produced through dynamic agroforestry.

Dr. Bronner’s, a family-owned maker of natural soap, will introduce a new line of organic, fair trade and vegan chocolate bars this summer.

The brand’s Magic All-One Chocolate bars feature chunky bites and decadent fillings, set in 70% dark chocolate from cocoa beans grown using regenerative organic practices. They’re sweetened with lower-glycemic coconut sugar.

Magic All-One Chocolate is on track to become Regenerative Organic Certified in 2022. With its regenerative organic and fair trade cocoa supply chain, the company seeks to demonstrate that chocolate can uplift both body and soul, as well as mitigate climate change and support small-scale farmers globally.

Dr. Bronner’s new Magic All-One Chocolate is a direct result of the company’s work to partner with farmers to improve the health and productivity of existing palm and cocoa trees in eastern Ghana through dynamic agroforestry. Dynamic agroforestry is a farming practice based on the integration of complementary trees and other crops that creates biodiversity, improves yields and income streams, and avoids the use of toxic chemicals by replicating the way plant species naturally support each other in a healthy tropical forest.

“The true cost of chocolate production has been externalized and paid by cocoa-producing communities in the service of profit for a few at the expense of many — leading to widespread ecological destruction, climate instability, poverty, worker exploitation, child labor, and even slavery,” said Gero Leson, v.p. of special operations. “We want to model a move away from extractive capitalism to a truly constructive model. This thinking is at the foundation of Dr. Bronner’s decision to bring our magic chocolate to market.”

Dr. Bronner’s Magic All-One Chocolate will be available in six flavors: Salted Dark Chocolate, Roasted Whole Hazelnuts, Crunchy Hazelnut Butter. Salted Whole Almonds, Salted Almond Butter and Smooth Coconut Praline.

Dr. Bronner's Magic All-One Chocolate will roll out at grocery stores nationwide starting Aug. 1, and online at drbronner.com this fall. The suggeted retail price for a 3-oz. bar is $5.49.

The outer wrapper of Magic All-One Chocolate is made from 100 percent recycled paper with a minimum of 80 percent post-consumer recycled fiber. The shelf life of Dr. Bronner's Magic All-One Chocolate is 20 months from the date of manufacture.
