June 2, 2015

Georgia Tate, a Dean’s list student and junior at Kansas State University, has won the 2015-2016 John Kitt Memorial Scholarship put out by the American Association of Candy Technologists (AACT).

Tate maintains academic excellence in her Food Science major studies and currently works full time at Perfetti Van Melle as a Senior Quality Technician. She also demonstrates an interest in working in the confectionery industry and actively participates as a member of the Institute for Food Technologists (IFT) and American Society for Quality.

Together, these achievements solidify her qualifications for the annual scholarship.

The AACT is a professional group comprised of technologists, operations personnel, educators, students, business staff, and others dedicated to the advancement of the confectionery industry.

To win the award, a student needs to:

  • Be a college sophomore or upperclassman in the 2015-2016 school year

  • Attend an accredited, four-year university in North America

  • Have a demonstrated interest in confectionery technology

  • Be majoring in food science, chemical science, biological science, or related area

  • Achieved a 3.0 out of 4.0 GPA
