Issei Mochi Gummies rebrands
The company is celebrating its third anniversary with new packaging and flavors.

Issei Mochi Gummies, founded in 2022 by first-generation Japanese American entrepreneur Mika Shino, is marking its third anniversary with a rebrand and product updates. The company introduced the first shelf-stable mochi gummies, offering a texture between a gummy and a marshmallow.
The rebrand includes new packaging designed to reflect the brand’s identity and improve shelf visibility. Issei is also launching a larger 4 oz format, new flavors, and a refined recipe that enhances texture and flavor.
Issei products are currently available in more than 5,000 retail locations across the U.S., including Target, Walmart, Whole Foods Market, Sprouts, Albertsons, World Market, and Raley’s. The company also maintains a direct-to-consumer presence through Amazon, TikTok Shop, Faire, and its website.
In its first three years, Issei has received multiple industry recognitions, including the Most Innovative New Product Award at the 2024 Sweets & Snacks Expo and the 2024 Nourish Award. The brand has also been featured by Inc. Magazine, Success Magazine, FoodBev Media, TasteTV, NOSH, and ExpoWest. Founder Mika Shino was named to Inc. Magazine’s 2024 Female Founders 200 List and recognized as a Success Magazine Woman of Influence.
Issei’s product line draws from the Japanese tradition of mochi, a rice-based food historically used in rituals and ceremonies. The gummies are free from gluten, dairy, soy, nuts, gelatin, and artificial ingredients.
“Three years ago, this journey began in my kitchen with my children, with one simple wish—to create a candy I could feel good about giving them as a mom,” says Mika Shino, founder and CEO. “Inspired by my Japanese heritage, I wanted to reimagine the sacred art of mochi—something that has always symbolized celebration, gratitude, and togetherness in my culture—with people everywhere.”
New product lines are in development for 2025, continuing the brand’s focus on ingredient transparency and cultural relevance.
