Oreo, Hershey discuss viral cookies and chocolate collab
The companies conducted extensive consumer testing for both new products.

Last week, Mondelēz International (parent company of Oreo) and Hershey (maker of Reese's) took the internet by storm when it announced a co-branded partnership: an Oreo Reese's Cookie, plus a Reese's Oreo Cup.
The new cookie features signature Oreo chocolate sandwich cookies filled with Reese's peanut buttery creme with Oreo cookie crumbs. The Reese's Oreo Cup brings together milk chocolate and white creme peanut butter cups with Oreo cookie crumbs.
We were able to touch base with Michelle Deignan, Oreo, and Dan Mohnshine, The Hershey Company, to chat more about the collab.
Liz Parker Kuhn: How did Mondelēz and Hershey originally come up with this partnership?
Michelle Deignan and Dan Mohnshine: The Oreo and the Reese's brand teams have been working on the collaboration for some time now, bringing together the best of our brands in a way that’s fun, exciting, and of course, absolutely delicious.
Fans of both brands have been mixing and stacking the two flavors together in all kinds of creative and delicious ways for years.
Always committed to delivering bold, exciting snacking experiences, we knew that this product innovation would feed into the snacking desires of our consumers in the most delicious way!
LPK: Oreo has created peanut butter-flavored crème centers before—how is the Reese's center different, and how will it taste different?
MD: Fans may remember in 2014, the Oreo brand launched the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup cookies. This time around, we’ve really upped-the-ante by incorporating Reese's signature peanut buttery creme with our Oreo cookie crumbs to make a cookie that really encompasses the best of both brands. Fans will have to wait until September 2025 to experience the taste of Oreo Reese's Cookies for themselves!
LPK: Has Hershey/Reese’s ever done a chocolate cup with cookie inclusions before?
DM: In 2017, we launched Reese's Stuffed with Crunchy Cookie Peanut Butter Cups. The Reese's Oreo Cup brings back cookie inclusions in a brand new way for Reese's and we’re excited for fans to get a taste of what they love most about Reese's and Oreo in September. Fans can sign up for first access here.
LPK: Did you do any consumer taste tests for the products before launch?
DM: We conducted extensive testing to ensure consumers loved the blend of the taste and textures fans have come to expect from Reese's and Oreo. The response from Gen Z was particularly strong in terms of both product appeal and uniqueness.
MD: Oreo cookie ranks as the most-requested flavor collaboration with Reese's on social media. During its time on the shelf in 2014, the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup cookies left a lasting impression on fans, so we knew this latest creation, Oreo Reese's Cookie, would offer a delicious and unique snacking experience our fans would love.
LPK: How has the consumer response been so far?
MD: Since it was announced, this iconic collaboration has drummed up lots of buzz and excitement amongst fans who have waited for this delicious mash up. Comments on social media are overwhelmingly positive, as consumers cannot wait to get their hands on these new innovations starting in September.
DM: It’s been exciting to see fans as excited as we are about our biggest launch yet. Fans have been posting their reactions online, sharing the news with friends and waiting in anticipation to taste these iconic new products.
LPK: Will there be any other collabs in the future between Hershey/Mondelēz?
DM: For more than 90 years, Reese's has been reinventing chocolate and peanut butter, dropping bold textures, rich combos and game-changing treats that keep our fans wanting more. Who knows what’s around the corner.
MD: The Oreo brand is always exploring new flavors and product innovations, so stay tuned for more exciting news on how we continue to create delicious and innovative snacking experiences for our fans.
