iba 2009 Coverage

September 2, 2009
Get your iba 2009 coverage here. SF&WB can tell you how to pick up your tickets, where to check in and what to expect at this year's big baking industry exhibition.

Go Online for iba Tickets

Attendees can purchase their tickets online at an advanced discount rate. By doing so, bakers will receive their tickets via e-mail. In addition to providing entrance to the show, the tickets will provide free public transportation within the VRR network in Düsseldorf for travel to and from the trade fair center.

Simply print and bring along to the fair. There will be separate collection counters to obtain your iba badge. To redeem your guest ticket, enter your ticket number (letter combination) and PIN (number combination) once you have completed registration. You will find these on the exhibitor’s invitation or the guest ticket. You will then receive a preliminary ticket. Your iba pass/badge will be ready for you to pick up at the counters marked “pre-registered visitors.”

Bakers Compete for the Best

During iba 2009 in Düsseldorf, Germany, bakers from Korea, Switzerland, Ireland, China, Italy, Russia, Japan, Poland, France, Chile, Denmark and Croatia will compete for the International Cup.

The competition will run from October 3-6. Each day, teams from three countries will be on stage to produce a bread product, a showpiece and a small party biscuit or cake, a Danish pastry that best represents the theme “Representing the Homeland.”

The participants will compete in three adjoining baking stations. Each baking station is around 150 sq. ft. and equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. The competition is being held next to the Central Association of the German Bakery Trade booth in Hall 11 and is organized by the German Bakers’ Academy.

In addition, the inaugural “German Championship of the Bakery Craft” will take place on October 7-8. Master bakers who have qualified in the preliminary trials will create bread products, small pastries, leavened pastries, Danish or puff pastries, as well as a baked showpiece, that best reflects the theme “Typically German.”

Finally, there will be the Young Bakers’ Cup Youth on October 9. Master bakers in training will put their talents on display. All contests will run from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. From 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., the teams will be asked to present their products in the display areas prepared for them at the Central Association’s information and advice booth. A jury will judge the products after each day of the contest.

The winners will be announced on the last day of the contest.

We’ll See You at iba 2009 in Germany

Snack Food & Wholesale Bakery magazine will be wandering the halls at the Messe in Düsseldorf, Germany, visiting with exhibitors and checking out the latest developments in equipment, ingredients and services for the baking industry.

In addition, we’ll be hanging around the lounge at the U.S. International Pavilion in Hall 9, where you can sit, relax and read a magazine while sipping down refreshments with a snack.

For a list of American exhibitors, go to www.iba.de.
