The Final Word by Marina Mayer

The ball has been pitched, it’s slightly inside, is she gonna get it? No, it’s a strike. Three strikes, she’s outta here. Deb’s final 15 Minutes are up! There’s now a new managing editor up to bat.

When I was told that I needed to introduce myself to the readers of SF&WB, I was somewhat nervous in doing so. But what the heck. When you’re up to bat, you just have to clear the mind and let it go.

As Debbie Cassell noted last month, she has moved up the ladder to become Editor of Confection & Snack Retailing (formerly known as the Confectioner), SF&WB’s sister publication.

Yes, I have major points to score with you guys, but I assure you that Deb has been instrumental in making this transition as easy as…well… pie!

I’m Marina Mayer, and I come to Snack Food & Wholesale Bakery with seven years of editorial experience, five of those years working as an editor, quality control operations for a B2B manufacturing and wholesale directory publisher. I took on this job to receive exposure and experience in a different type of atmosphere with a different target audience.

And then there’s the added bonus in it for me.

   “I simply love snack foods.”

Doritos, Cheetos, Fritos. If you have ‘em, I’ll snack on ‘em. I’m also in love with chocolate. Chocolate chip cookies, chocolate candy bars, chocolate frosting, chocolate-covered pretzels.

Then there are granola bars, apple pie, blueberry muffins, the list can go on.

How fitting, I like to say.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m a picky eater. Yes, I’m the one at the Thanksgiving dinner who is moving the corn around on my plate so it doesn’t touch the mashed potatoes. Some foods should never touch.

But for a munchie addict like myself, I’m going to absolutely indulge myself in my new job.

So pitch me the ball. I’m ready to hit a home run.
