General Mills
, Minneapolis, has appointed Greg Schlafer director, general manager, Bakery Channels, in its Bakeries and Foodservice division. Previously, Schlafer was segment director of the In-Store Bakery team.
Jimmy M. Woodward, senior vice president and CFO of Flowers Foods, is retiring, effective Sept. 15, and will be replaced by R. Steve Kinsey, vice president and corporate controller. Woodward will continue to serve in an advisory capacity for financial and related matters. Kinsey joined Thomasville, Ga.-based Flowers in 1989 as a tax associate.
In related news, Flowers Foods has appointed A. Craig White regional vice president. Previously, White was president of Flowers’ bakery in Morristown, Tenn. He will be replaced by Jess Maggard, Jr., who has been serving as the bakery’s vice president of sales.
J. R. Short Milling Co. has added Terry Gieseke to its executive team in the role of director sales and marketing. Gieseke is responsible for strategic planning, market research, communications and sales across key product lines for the Kankakee, Ill,-based company. She will maintain offices in Kankakee and the St. Louis area. Previously, Gieseke worked at Kerry Ingredients and DuPont Protein Technologies, which is now called Solae.
Mike Crider has joined Diehl Food Ingredients Inc., Defiance, Ohio, as territory sales manager. Crider had worked for Custom Industries and Kerry Ingredients after its purchase of Custom Industries. Prior to that, he worked at Kellogg Co. for more than 16 years in various capacities.
The Food Packaging Division of the Institute of Food Technology has awarded the Riester-Davis Award to Tom Powers, director of marketing and research/development at Multisorb Technologies, Buffalo, N.Y. The award acknowledges Powers’ 35 years of contributions to the field of food packaging technology.  
Barry Callebaut, a manufacturer of cocoa and chocolate products based in Zurich, Switzerland, recently appointed Denise Palmer corporate accounts manager for North America. The company also hired Andrew Hesser as corporate accounts manager for the food manufacturing division and Chadwick Larsen as Midwest regional sales manager.
Demarle, Inc., the Cranbury, N.J.-based North American subsidiary of Groupe SASA Industrie, has named Michael J. Cornelis vice president of sales and marketing. Cornelis, a 23-year veteran of the baking industry, will succeed Hatsuo Takeuchi, who will retire in October. Previously Cornelis was director of sales and marketing for Packaging Direct, Inc.
Jim Porach has joined Raleigh, N.C.-based Aeroglide Corp., which designs and manufactures custom drying and cooling equipment, in a technical sales role. Porach has 15 years of experience, the last nine of which were in direct sales of thermal processing equipment.
King’s Hawaiian, the Torrence, Calif.-based producer of Hawaiian sweet bread and dinner rolls, has named Bob Hammer eastern regional business manager. During the past 21 years, Hammer served as business development, new product development, regional finance, and product planning manager for Tropicana Products, Inc. and Starkist Foods, Inc.
