Kason Corp.’s Flo-Thru Sanitary Sifter Model K40-1FT-SS has two unbalanced-weight gyratory motors mounted on opposing exterior sidewalls of the unit instead of one motor positioned beneath the screening chamber, reducing its overall height significantly. This design also allows particles to pass through a 40-in.-diameter screen in a vertical straight-through discharge path at high. All material contact surfaces and the floor stand are made of stainless steel with continuous welds. Quick-release clamps allow for the quick removal of screens and tool-free disassembly of frames for thorough wash down, inspection and screen changes.

Developed in cooperation with manufacturers of multihead weighers, Douglas Machines’ Scale Parts Washers are designed to wash, rinse and sanitize weigh buckets, chutes and feeder pans in as little as 6 minutes. Specialized wash racks can be loaded at the weigh station and transported to the washer for easy cleaning. Available for all brands, the racks are designed to protect parts during cleaning, thus extending their lifetime. The machine can be installed on mezzanines or can be used in centralized washing rooms.

Flexicon Corp.’s Dual Bulk Bag Filling System integrates two swing-down bulk bag fillers with a Flexicon pallet dispenser and powered roller conveyors. Programmable controls allow the fillers to operate separately or simultaneously, filling bags of the same size or different sizes. The system is available with a mechanical or a pneumatic material delivery system integrated with the user’s upstream process equipment or other material source.

Master-Bilt upgrades its patented Master Controller Reverse Cycle Defrost (MCRCD) for walk-in refrigeration systems. The system features a valve that reverses the flow of high-temperature refrigerant through the evaporator coil, heating along its entire length and eliminating frost buildup. A new Internet-based technology program called Web2Walk-In now provides complete access to the entire MCRCD system remotely, allowing users to monitor and program all data and setpoints though wireless Internet or a cable connection. An application that provides users with the same services as a computer also is available through Android smart-phones.

Thermo Fisher Scientific has developed the Versa Warehouse in-line scale control for demanding distribution warehouse environments. The control can weigh each package more than 100 times as it travels across the scale, ensuring accurate weight data without comprising line speeds of more than 500 ft. per minute. New software uses algorithms designed for variable package dimensions and weight, increasing accuracy when weighing packages with variable attributes. A built-in oscilloscope simplifies calibration, while a color touch screen features a user-friendly interface to simplify set-up and modify performance variables. The control can also weigh a variety of package types up to 110 lb.

Munson Machinery’s new 34-in. sanitary stainless-steel Pin Mill Model CIM-34-SS grinds coarse to fine (400-esh), friable powders, flakes and granules into controlled particle sizes. It can also be used for de-agglomerating. High-speed rotation of the inner disc creates centrifugal force that accelerates bulk material entering the central inlet of the opposing stationary disc. As material travels from the center to the periphery of the discs at high speed, it passes through five intermeshing rows of rotating and stationary pins with the desired particle-size distribution obtained by controlling the rotor speed. The vertical mill housing results in a smaller footprint than horizontally-oriented units and allows the outer disc to hinge open, providing instant access to all product-contact surfaces for cleaning and inspection.

DynaClean custom food conveyor systems from Dynamic Conveyor Corp. are available in 12-in., 18-in. and 24-in. widths and with 30-, 45-, 90-degree or custom angles to give the right conveyor incline or decline. Users can choose from five plastic, link-style belts designed to meet the needs of wet, dry or sticky foods and to resist bacteria growth. Available in white or blue, the belts can be removed and re-installed within minutes for thorough cleaning. Optional belt lifters provide internal access, making it possible to clean a conveyor while the belt is running. The conveyors are also reconfigurable, enabling food processors to re-use existing conveyor segments or use them with new segments to build conveyors capable to handling new products.

When paired, Hinds-Bock’s servo filling machines and servo spout bridges can be used to fill a variety of entrée items into trays, cups, bowls and tubs. The servo filling machines run quickly, using low air, can be cleaned in place (CIP) and require low maintenance. Modern controls also allow for faster setup. The operator can call up a recipe in the operator interface (HMI) and bring up the appropriate fill profile, and the filler automatically adjusts itself. Once a stored recipe is selected, the servo spout bridge adjusts for different tray pitches or dimensions, matches the speed of the tray for target filling or under runs the tray for lead edge-to-trail edge spreading.
