The Southeastern Chapter of the Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP) is accepting registration for its 2013 48 Hour Re-Pack Student Packaging Design Competition until Feb. 20. The competition will kick off Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. and end 48 hours later, on Feb. 24.

Going into its fourth year, the annual student package design competition was created as a forum to highlight the skills and talents of tomorrow’s design professionals.

“The 48 Hour Re-Pack Competition is a fantastic way for students of all disciplines to get exposed to the packaging industry,” says Paul Spitale, president of the IoPP Southeastern Chapter. “As in the working world, these students will be challenged to showcase their creativity under a formidable timeline. They will learn the importance of incorporating ‘winning’ criteria, the challenges of managing around a deadline and the power of creating the perfect sales pitch. Each year, the bar gets much higher, and we look forward to next year’s competition.”

A panel of industry professionals will jury all submissions, and the winners will receive cash prizes ranging from $1,000 to $3,000.

Winners will be announced in May at the 2013 NEXTPACK—The Summit on the Future of Packaging of the IoPP Southeastern Chapter, to be held at The Coca-Cola Co. headquarters in Atlanta. The summit is a half-day event featuring leading industry experts on technology, research, design innovation and trends.

The competition allows students to have direct contact with packaging professionals from some of the finest design firms and sponsoring corporations in the Southeast. Every competition participant will receive complimentary admission to the 2013 NEXTPACK. The top 10 finalists will be invited to show their designs in the exhibition area. The three winning teams will present their ideas as part of the summit program. All entries will be featured on the competition website, www.48hrrepack.com.
