Clabber Girl uses lean manufacturing to improve SQF certification scores

Clabber Girl Corp., Terre Haute, Ind., says it has received recertification as a Level 3 Safe Quality Food (SQF) supplier and was awarded an E (Excellent) Rating, the highest rating that can be achieved. This ranks Clabber Girl among the top food manufacturers in the U.S. The annual audit was conducted by the American Institute of Baking International (AIB), an approved certification body of the SQF Institute.

The SQF program is a leading, comprehensive, global food-safety and quality certification program designed to meet the needs of buyers and suppliers worldwide. It provides independent certification that a supplier’s food-safety and quality management system complies with international and domestic food-safety regulations, enabling suppliers the ability to assure customers that their products have been produced, processed, prepared and handled according to the highest possible standards.

“The entire Clabber Girl team is dedicated to excellence and has welcomed the challenge to achieve a Level 3 certification, which represents requirements that are the most inclusive and the most difficult to attain,” states Gary Morris, president and COO of Clabber Girl Corp. “SQF gives us the opportunity to deliver verification that we are taking the steps necessary to produce safe, quality food. It is our commitment to engage in continuous improvement and exceed our customers’ expectations.”

Morris adds that the implementation of Lean Manufacturing procedures has attributed to the successful audits. “Our Lean Manufacturing journey has engaged our employees to work in self-directed teams focused on working together to solve problems and make improvements every day,” he says. “SQF is something that is always top of mind because it is built into the procedures of our daily operations.”

Clabber Girl has taken the initiative to keep employees involved in the processes of maintaining a safe quality food environment by cultivating a focus on training and education.
