The Middleby Corp., an Elgin, Ill.-based developer, manufacturer and marketer of foodservice and food-processing equipment, purchases Stewart Systems Global, L.L.C., Plano, Texas, which manufactures baking systems. The acquisition places Middleby at more than $1 billion in sales annually.
The 2012 America’s Best Raisin Bread Contest, hosted by the California Raisin Marketing Board, named 36 finalists across the country. The total number of entries exceeded 2011 totals, at 104, and 31 of the 36 finalists are first-time qualifiers.

The founding family leadership of Brewster, Ohio-based snack food maker Shearer’s Foods, which has been purchased by Wind Point Partners, a private equity firm in Chicago, will be stepping down. Wind Point says the transaction is expected to close in October. Terms weren’t disclosed.
After 22 years, National Confectioners Association (NCA) president Larry Graham plans to retire in 2014; the association prepares for a smooth transition of leadership. Graham has overseen significant changes in the association’s structure and intends to be actively involved in the recruiting process and transition to ensure an organized change of leadership.
