Shearer’s Foods, Inc., purchased a pretzel production facility in Canonsburg, Pa., from Troyer Farms.

Terms of the sale, which occurred in February, were not disclosed.

The 35,000-sq.-ft. plant currently houses one pretzel line, but Shearer’s Foods will be looking to expand the operation to meet the needs of its customers, says Bob Shearer, chief executive officer of the Brewster, Ohio-based snack producer.

Shearer adds that the company secured the jobs of the 25 employees who work at the Canonsburg plant.

The acquisition also allows Shearer’s Foods to come out with newly formulated pretzel Thins, Minis and Sticks that come in 1-lb. bags and retail for $2.79 under the Shearer’s brand. The facility also makes pretzels for the snack producer’s private label and contract manufacturing customers, according to Scott W. Smith, Shearer’s president.
