Everyone loves chocolate. In an April 2018 report, Mintel reports that 90 percent of adults reported purchasing some form of chocolate in a three-month period of time.
And although Atkins does quote several analysts and trots out dire statistics to make his case, this call to alarm could be called a bit of a stretch, somewhat akin to the sensational headlines last year indicating a looming chocolate shortage.
"We have people here who understand how to make chocolate... I want to ensure that we have an environment where these people can thrive,” Wurscher says.
As most of the major chocolate players commit to sustainable chocolate within seven years, the 2020 goal poses a slew of challenges for suppliers.
