$18,000 worth of candy stolen from Sweets and Snacks Expo
Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority continues to investigate the incident.
About $18,000 worth of candy was stolen Thursday night during a convention at McCormick Place, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
About 8:10 p.m., someone stole the candy from a parking garage in the 2300 block of South King Drive, according to Chicago Police.
The candy was left out during loading, police said. It was unattended when the person stole it.
The Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, which manages McCormick Place is reviewing surveillance footage to see whether cameras captured the incident, spokeswoman Cynthia McCafferty told the Sun-Times.
“Safety and security is of paramount importance to MPEA and we’re working closely with Chicago Police as they investigate,” she says.
The 2018 Sweets and Snacks Expo was held at McCormick Place May 22-24 and featured about 17,000 confectionery and snack from 90 countries, and more than 800 companies displaying more than 4 acres of candy and snack products.
