Reser’s Fine Foods purchases a top competitor, Orval Kent, and its parent company, Chef Solutions Inc., expanding Reser’s market reach to fresh foods. This is the second time in as many months that the Beaverton, Ore. company bought up a rival brand.

Reser’s Fine Foods, Beaverton, Ore., says it has closed on a deal to purchase substantially all of the assets and operations of Chef Solutions Inc., a subsidiary of Chef Solutions Holdings, LLC, including those of its primary operating subsidiary, Orval Kent Food Company, LLC (“Orval Kent”).

Both companies are working diligently to ensure Orval Kent’s customers a smooth transition as we integrate their operations, states Mark Reser, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Reser’s. “We’re confident that the increased breadth and depth of our combined North American product portfolio, product innovation and customer service will benefit all of our customers.”

Oregon-based Reser’s produces deli salads, fresh salads, side dishes and prepared foods for supermarkets and the foodservice industry.  Founded in 1950 by Earl and Mildred Reser, the company remains privately owned and operated.

In September, Reser’s bought another formal rival, which was struggling to absorb higher commodity prices. It paid $18.25 million for fresh-cut vegetable company Vaughan Foods Inc.
