East Balt Bakeries, Chicago, has acquired two South African bakeries. Located in Pretoria and Cape Town, the bakeries were previously in a partnership with SA Food Staples Proprietary Ltd. The acquisition enables East Balt to further increase market share in the region by servicing key global quick-service restaurants as well as local retail customers.

“We will continue to invest in and acquire new bakery facilities around the world in order to meet our growing global customer base” says Mark Bendix, CEO of East Balt Bakeries. “The acquisition not only solidifies our presence in the South African market, it also positions us to further expand to emerging markets as needed.”

East Balt is a global bakery business spanning four continents with 23 bakeries in 12 countries.
