It's helpful advice. It's friendship. And it's family. That is how candy makers and suppliers feel when they think about the last 100 years of Retail Confectioners International.
It’s been 10 months since I joined Candy Industry, but it wasn’t until a week ago that I had a chance to partake in an event hosted by the Retail Confectioners International (RCI). I didn’t realize it, but I was in for a treat.
Last Thursday, more than 240 Retail Confectioners International (RCI) convention attendees toured Savage Bros. offices and its manufacturing facility in Elk Grove Village, Ill. The next day, 11 employees in the company’s engineering area of the 81,500-sq.-ft. complex were startled to hear a rumbling sound around 1:45 p.m.
In attending the Welcome Reception on Monday evening and then touring the Expo the next day, I suddenly realized how quickly time can fly in the confectionery industry.
We all know the common phrase “it’s not what you know — it’s who you know.” But all too often we take this for granted and don’t really invest in this valuable tool.
Whether you are brand new to the industry or have a long history in confections, being an active participant is one way you can not only continue to invest in yourself but also give back.
“Angie brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm and we have no doubt the organization will be poised for continued growth under her leadership," says Doug Dressman, RCI's 2013-2014 incoming board president, and v.p. of operations for Esther Price Candies Corp.
