Di Fara Pizza introduces Grandma-style product
The item is inspired by the square pies made by Italian-American grandmas in the '70s.

Di Fara Pizza’s latest launch, its new Grandma Pizza, is now available in the frozen aisle. The brand is introducing the first and only Grandma-style pizza in the frozen set, it says, bringing a uniquely New York staple to retail in a way that hasn’t been done before.
Inspired by the square pies made by Italian-American grandmas in the ’70s, Di Fara’s Grandma Pizza New York is defined by its hand-stretched dough and baked in an olive oil-coated pan, creating a golden, crispy edge. The result is a crust that’s crisp on the outside, but light and airy inside, the brand claims.
Available in three of Di Fara’s flavors—Classic, Vodka, and Pepperoni—each pie is crafted with three cheeses (including aged Parmesan and fresh mozzarella), along with extra virgin olive oil (no seed oils), and hand-picked basil. At $12.99, it’s positioned above the brand’s $9.99 round pizzas to deliver a true, restaurant-quality experience at home, with plans to bring this same premium approach across the broader portfolio, the brand shares.
The launch is beginning with a regional rollout in Di Fara’s East Coast backyard, specifically at ShopRite and The Giant Company, plus across NY, NJ, PA, and select stores in CT and MD. These partners were among the first to bring Di Fara to retail and remain some of the brand’s strongest-performing accounts, making this market a meaningful proving ground where expectations for pizza are especially high, the brand notes. A national expansion is planned for the second half of the year.
Notably, the Grandma pie has already built a cult following: it’s the pizza that earned a rare double 9.4 rating from Barstool Sports' Dave Portnoy—reportedly the only time he’s ever given that score.
Driven by this launch and continued retail momentum, Di Fara is on track to grow from 2,000 stores at the start of this year to 10,000 retail doors by the end of 2026—a more than 400% increase, the brand notes.
