Chicago area scales manufacturer participates in bakery makeover

Doran Scales’ stainless steel, digital bakery scales will appear in the July 1 episode of Buddy’s Bakery Rescue, a new TV series on TLC featuring Buddy Valastro, a well-known baker and star of the cable network’s Cake Boss. In the series, Valastro evaluates struggling bakeries and turns them around, helping them become profitable and successful.
The July 1 episode featuring several of Doran’s digital bakery scales takes place at Bing’s Bakery in Newark, DE. As part of the improvement in the production area, the bakery’s existing mechanical scale was replaced with a new digital scale from Doran.
“We were excited to hear that the producers specifically wanted our scales to be used to help improve the performance of this family-owned bakery,” says Mark Podl (pictured with his wife and company vice president, Shani). “As CEO and owner of a second-generation, family-owned business myself, I know some of the unique challenges that the current owners of Bing’s Bakery were facing. I’m glad we could help them out as we have so many other bakeries each year.
“[We] developed our digital bakery scale over 20 years ago to replace the type of mechanical scale that Bing’s Bakery was using. Bakers that make the switch find that product consistency is improved and production time is reduced—resulting in lower costs and higher profits. That relationship with the baking industry that was started many years ago by my father is still going strong today.
