Final Boss Sour, the gaming-themed healthier snack alternative brand known for its retro-gaming-inspired sour snacks, announced that it has raised $4 million in a Seed 2 funding round led by Science Inc. The round includes returning investors GFR Fund and Uncommon Denominator, with new participation from Melitas Ventures, DMG Ventures, Simple Food Ventures, and Air Ventures. The funding will fuel product innovation, expand distribution, and deepen investments in content and creator partnerships.

Alongside the raise, Final Boss Sour is also announcing its newest product line: the Tropical VIP Sampler Box. A follow-up to its Berry Sampler Box, this new release introduces nine all-new characters with three levels of sour using real mangos, pineapples, and kiwis, adding a new dimension to the brand’s gamified snacking experience.

“With the launch of the Tropical Sample Box and the support of top-tier investors, we’re leveling up in every way,” says James Hicks, co-founder and general manager of Final Boss Sour. “In the last 12 months we sold over 100,000 units of our Barry Sampler Box. Our fans have been asking for new flavors and characters, and we’re giving them just that—more variety, more challenge, and more fun. This is the next evolution of Final Boss Sour.”

“Final Boss Sour has always been about more than just bold flavors—it’s about building a brand that people genuinely want to engage with,” says Tommy Riggs, co-founder of Final Boss Sour. “We’ve seen our community grow to over 300,000 YouTube subscribers and almost a billion organic views on TikTok, far surpassing engagement of legacy snack brands, and that momentum has been driven by real enthusiasm from fans who don’t just snack—they participate. The Tropical Sampler Box gives them nine entirely new minibosses and levels to defeat, all while sharing their experience with their friends. Our fans asked us for this and we listened.”

The Tropical Sample Box is the second sampler of the brand’s signature dried fruit and sour powder format, this time with mangos, kiwis, and pineapple chunks. Each snack introduces new characters, encouraging consumers to “collect” flavor experiences and level up through escalating levels of sour intensity.

“Final Boss Sour is tapping into something bigger than just snacking,” says Michael Jones, general partner at Science Inc. “They’ve brought new energy to a category that hasn’t seen much change, using content and creating a fan-based community that actually drives growth. This is a brand that shows it can continue to evolve in both product and approach—and find smart ways to scale.”

Final Boss Sour was developed in Science Inc.'s studio, known for creating disruptive consumer brands including Dollar Shave Club and Liquid Death. The brand emerged as a healthier, gaming-themed alternative to sour candies, using real fruit and no artificial ingredients. With Science Inc.'s resources and expertise in consumer trends and influencer marketing, the team quickly brought Final Boss Sour to market, tapping into platforms such as TikTok and YouTube to drive growth.
