General Mills, Minneapolis, announced on July 16 that it plans to closing two manufacturing facilities—one in Illinois and one in Missouri.

General Mills says its decision to close its facility in West Chicago, IL, which manufactures cereal, meals and snack products, is subject to negotiation with union officials. If the decision becomes final, the company expects the facility would close mid-calendar year 2017. Approximately 500 employees would be impacted by the closure.

General Mills says it will close its Joplin, MO, manufacturing facility on Junge Boulevard by end of calendar 2015. The location manufactures snack products; the decision impacts approximately 120 positions. The company’s facility on Stephens Boulevard in Joplin will remain open and continue operating.
