Herr's permanently adds Philly-inspired flavor to lineup
Long Hots & Sharp Provolone won the 2025 Flavored by Philly: Crunch Off contest.

Herr Foods Inc. has announced the winner of the 2025 Flavored by Philly: Crunch Off contest—Long Hots & Sharp Provolone. After emerging victorious in a matchup of past champions, Long Hots & Sharp Provolone will be the first Crunch Off winning flavor to join Herr’s everyday product lineup.
The Flavored by Philly: Crunch Off competition is an annual event that celebrates local flavor creativity and the spirit of Philadelphia. The 2025 lineup paid tribute to the city's culinary heritage, featuring three standout flavors:
- Long Hots & Sharp Provolone: Inspired by a local Philadelphian, this potato chip brings the heat with bold roasted pepper flavor, sharp provolone undertones, and a gradually building mild spice.
- Tomato Pie: Paying homage to the signature dish of Corropolese Bakery, this potato chip features sweet tomato sauce and Romano cheese layered over Herr’s signature hearty crunch.
- Special Hot Stromboli: Modeled after Romano’s Special Hot Stromboli, this potato chip delivers a savory blend of cheese and spices with just the right amount of heat—capturing the essence of a Philly favorite.
In a clear victory, Long Hots & Sharp Provolone outpaced Tomato Pie and Special Hot Stromboli in votes and sales units, earning its everyday place on store shelves.
This year’s competition garnered 199,008 votes—a 654% increase in participation, making it the most engaging contest yet.
“We’re always looking for ways to celebrate the incredible flavors of our region, and Long Hots & Sharp Provolone Potato Chips truly captures the bold, unique spirit of Philadelphia,” says Ed Herr, executive chair, Herr Foods Inc. “The outpouring of support from our fans this year was unparalleled, and we’re proud to make this winning flavor part of our everyday lineup.”
Fans can now enjoy Long Hots & Sharp Provolone year-round—perfect for satisfying cravings with its signature combination of roasted pepper heat and sharp provolone flavor. Herr’s Long Hots & Sharp Provolone Potato Chips will hit shelves starting in January 2026.
