Chifles expands into Kroger stores nationwide
The plantain chip brand is now offered in 2,200 new locations.

Chifles has announced national availability of its 12 oz Original Plantain Strips in more than 2,200 Kroger stores. The expansion marks a milestone for the family-owned company, which now reaches over 15,000 points of sale across the country.
The announcement comes as demand for multicultural and better-for-you snacks continues to grow in mainstream grocery. According to Circana, the U.S. salty snack category exceeds $30 billion annually, with plantain chips emerging as one of the fastest-growing segments—expanding more than 50% over the past three years and maintaining double-digit growth.
Chifles captures roughly 25% of U.S. plantain chip sales and continues to outpace category growth. The brand’s products are made from hand-selected green plantains, sliced and kettle-cooked within 24 hours for freshness. Chifles maintains its original recipes while adapting to modern tastes, offering snacks that are naturally gluten-free and free from artificial ingredients.
“This expansion into Kroger is more than distribution—it’s about sharing our family’s heritage and flavors with households across America,” says Tony Rivas Jr., president of Chifles. “For over 60 years, Chifles has been part of Hispanic kitchens. Today, we’re proud to see plantain chips step into the mainstream salty snack aisle as a reflection of both cultural pride and consumer demand.”
The announcement aligns with Hispanic Heritage Month, highlighting the role of Hispanic-owned brands in shaping U.S. food culture.
“We see plantain chips as the next big salty snack,” Rivas says. “They’re naturally gluten-free, versatile, and they resonate with today’s consumers who are seeking authenticity and better-for-you choices.”
