Kemin publishes report on consumer grocery behaviors
Snacks and bakery producers can aim to better meet shopper demands.

Kemin Industries, a global ingredient manufacturer, recently published “2025 & Beyond Consumer Purchasing Trends,” a new report from its food technologies business unit in North America that aims to shsare unique insights into how today’s consumers evaluate and decide on their grocery purchases. The report also examines emerging opportunities within bakery, snacks, and other categories that food manufacturers can pursue to better meet consumer demands.
“With food prices rising and food safety remaining a serious concern for today’s shoppers, it is critical for food manufacturers to deliver high-quality food products that offer strong consumer appeal, excellent taste and texture, consistent yield, and an extended shelf life,” says Courtney Schwartz, marketing director, Kemin Food Technologies – North America. “Today’s consumers are intentional, meaning they are looking to spend less for more value and expect food manufacturers to provide high-quality products at lower prices. Shoppers are also increasingly safety conscious, quality focused, and knowledge seeking; they are interested in clean label products with recognizable ingredients but are still primarily focused on food products that taste great.”
The new report identifies four key purchase drivers that consumers prioritize when making grocery purchases—taste, price, healthfulness, and convenience—and ways food manufacturers can capitalize on these areas.
“With a growing number of consumers driven by busy schedules, the report also provides a deep dive into on-the-go eating that we hope manufacturers will find valuable,” says Schwartz.
The technical experts at Kemin can help manufacturers optimize products for their consumers and bottom line, the company says. Kemin offers ingredient solutions for a wide range of applications and can reportedly help manufacturers overcome their most prevalent challenges, including:
- Improving texture
- Maintaining color and flavor
- Enhancing food safety and delaying microbial growth to extend shelf life
- Improving yield and enhancing quality
- Optimizing formulas and reducing input costs
“We hope that, by informing businesses about consumer demographics and how they influence key factors such as taste and price, we can help them adapt and thrive in a competitive marketplace,” says Schwartz. “From proteins to baked goods and more, Kemin can assist with improving a wide variety of retail products by meeting in-demand label claims and helping products remain price competitive because they stay fresher and safer for longer.”
