The Big Chocolate Show held its second annual event in New York City on Saturday, Oct. 7. The event’s highlight was honoring four experts as “Legends of Chocolate” for their contributions to the craft chocolate industry. The four honorees included cacao and chocolate flavor expert Ed Seguine; the father of American craft chocolate John Scharffenberger; authors Sophie & Michael Coe, and cacao geneticist Juan Carlos Motamayor.

Pam Gesford's endeavors have earned her the 2017 Stroud Jordan Award, presented each year at the American Association of Candy Technologists’ (AACT) National Technical Seminar to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the confectionery technology field, particularly through education, organization and research.

Organizers of Yummex Middle East, formerly known as Sweets and Snacks Middle East, have announced the winners of the 2017 Innovation Awards during the show’s 11th edition, held Sept. 18-20 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The PMCA’s Production Conference Program Committee named Bogusz as the 21st recipient of the Marie Kelso Memorial Award based on his a paper titled Panning Equipment – Classic, Belt, Automated and Future State of the Art. 

Lufkin, Texas-based Atkinson Candy Co. and its packaging design partner, The Vital Design Group, have been selected from more than 2,000 entries as winners of the annual Graphic Design USA 2017 American Package Design Awards. 

Among the winners were 11 American craft chocolate makers and 18 confectioners, who received their awards before a crowd of about 900 people assembled in the Herbst Theater, a historic landmark that hosted the signing of the United Nations charter in 1945. 

The National Confectioner’s Association (NCA) has announced winners of its 2017 Confectionery Leadership Awards, which celebrate honorees’ effective business collaboration, category management best practices and innovations in in-store merchandising.
