Two potato chip competitions
Speaking of chips, both Herr's and Lay's have announced details about their chip contests.
Herr Foods Inc., the Pennsylvania-based snack company, has kicked off its fourth annual Flavored by Philly—a fan-favorite competition. In a fresh twist for 2025, Herr’s is launching Flavored by Philly: Crunch Off, as this year’s contest invites the public to vote on their favorite flavor from past champions, with the winning chip earning a permanent spot in the Herr’s product lineup.
To celebrate the start of this year’s showdown, Herr’s is teaming up with none other than Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber. A longtime Herr’s enthusiast, Schwarber is rallying snack lovers across the tri-state area to try all three bold flavors and cast their vote for their favorite.
The Flavored by Philly: Crunch Off contest has become an annual tradition, celebrating local flavors and culinary ingenuity. Herr’s continues to highlight the vibrant Philadelphia food scene, and this year’s contenders are a tribute to the city’s rich culinary heritage. The three competing flavors include:
- Long Hots & Sharp Provolone: Inspired by a local Philadelphian, this chip brings the heat with bold roasted pepper flavor, sharp provolone undertones, and a gradually building mild spice.
- Tomato Pie: Paying homage to Corropolese Bakery’s signature dish, this chip features the familiar flavors of sweet tomato sauce and Romano cheese paired with Herr’s signature hearty crunch.
- Special Hot Stromboli: Modeled after Romano’s Special Hot Stromboli, this flavor delivers a savory blend of cheese and spices with just the right amount of heat—capturing the essence of a Philly classic.
Consumers can vote for their favorite at herrsflavoredbyphilly.com, with voting closing on August 4. The winning flavor will be revealed by August 31. In addition to determining the flavor that earns a permanent spot in Herr's product lineup, participants will also be entered to win one of eight sweepstakes prizes, including a Herr’s gift basket filled with snacks and merchandise, plus a $100 gift card.
As for Lay's: after months of waiting and thousands of fan votes, the Lay’s Do Us A Flavor winner is finally here. The consumers have spoken, and without further ado, the 2025 champion is (drumroll please)… Lay’s Bacon Grilled Cheese Flavored Potato Chips.
The winning flavor, submitted by Paula George from Sapulpa, OK, will receive a $1 million prize and join the ranks of other Do Us A Flavor winners, including Lay’s Crispy Taco, Lay’s Southern Biscuits & Gravy, Lay’s Cheesy Garlic Bread, and Lay’s Wavy Fried Green Tomato Flavored Potato Chips.
Savory and comforting, Lay’s Bacon Grilled Cheese is a nostalgic ode to the classic dish, combining two of everyone’s favorites: bacon & grilled cheese. George drew inspiration from her late father’s bacon grilled cheese recipe and hopes the flavor will bring fans a similar memory of a delicious favorite meal, enjoyed on the cheesy crunch of a Lay’s potato chip.
This year’s contest received more than 700,000 potato chip flavor submissions from fans across the country, with Lay’s Valentina & Lime submitted by Araceli Huerta and Lay’s Wavy Korean-Style Fried Chicken submitted by Neelia Lynn named as the two other finalists that vied for fans’ votes. The three 2025 Lay’s Do Us A Flavor finalists are on store shelves nationwide while supplies last, and consumers can keep their eyes open for other Lay’s flavor innovations in the future.

Wendy's, Takis turn up the heat with flavor-packed collaboration

Wendy's patrons can get their hands on the collaboration in U.S. restaurants on June 20, and in Canada restaurants starting June 30.
