Snack Food & Wholesale Bakery is pleased to announce that it has named Sheila G’s Brownie Brittle as its 2018 “Bakery of the Year.” This bakery got its start in 1992 when Sheila G. Mains began her Florida-based commercial brownie baking business. For years, she supplied foodservice operators and Disney theme parks with her signature fudgy brownies.

But things took a deliciously innovative turn when Mains decided to see if she could bake a pan of brownies that had the same characteristics as the crispy edges she was so fond of, often walking through the cooling area of the bakery and collecting the crispy bits of batter from the edges of the pans as they cooled, spots here and there where the batter had overflowed from the pan. She loved those rich, chocolaty and ultra-crunchy brownie pieces!

In 2011, after figuring out how to bake an entire pan of brownies that had a signature cookie crunch, she launched Brownie Brittle in retail stores—the first crispy brownie product on the market. Accolades soon began pouring in, and the product line saw great diversification—and sales—over the next several years.

Mains has seen her company grow considerably through the years, maintaining a strong level of innovation across the cookie category.

Recently, Sheila G’s Brownie Brittle has expanded to add lines of Thindulgent sandwich cookies, organic Brownie Brittle, chocolate-covered Brownie Brittle bites and more.

Complete coverage of Sheila G’s Brownie Brittle as the 2018 “Bakery of the Year” will form the focus of the August issue of Snack Food & Wholesale Bakery.
