Krispy Kreme has opened its first Hot Light Theater Shop in Madrid, Spain, through a minority interest joint venture with Glaseados Originales S.L. The shop opened on Oct. 2, 2025, marking the brand’s entry into the Spanish market and continuing its global expansion through a capital-light franchise model.

Two additional shops are planned in Madrid before year-end, with more than 50 locations expected across Spain over the next four years. Five of these will be Hot Light Theater Shops, which serve as both retail experiences and production hubs. Expansion is also planned in Barcelona, Valencia, Málaga, Zaragoza, and Bilbao.

“We’re thrilled to introduce Krispy Kreme’s iconic, fresh-made doughnuts to Spain,” says CEO Josh Charlesworth. “Partnering with Glaseados Originales S.L. not only strengthens our international presence with a highly experienced local operator but also reinforces our commitment to scaling efficiently through our franchise model that supports sustainable, profitable growth.”

Krispy Kreme will also expand into Brazil and Uzbekistan before the end of 2025. In Brazil, two new locations will open in São Paulo through a joint venture with Ipiranga’s AmPM. One will feature the brand’s updated shop design, while the other will operate as a compact kiosk. Both formats will offer core and locally inspired products, including dulce de leche and cinnamon sugar.

In Uzbekistan, Krispy Kreme will debut in Tashkent through a franchise partnership with Food Town Logistics-Group, LLC. The franchisee plans to open more than 70 shops across the country over the next five years.

“As we grow our international presence, we’re focused on sharing the joy that is Krispy Kreme with more people, in more places,” says Charlesworth. “From Spain to Brazil to Uzbekistan, we love seeing the excitement from consumers around the world as they enjoy our fresh, delicious treats.”
